9 Unique Things to Do on a Pontoon

May. 22 2020 News By Ruthie Johnson

Summer is not cancelled, but we can all agree that summer 2020 will be a lot different than we are used to…no concerts, festivals, big events, or even sporting events, including kids activities. You might be wondering how to fill the weekends. Boating is a natural form of social distancing. Your boat has to stay a certain distance away from other boats, and when you’re on a boat, you’re surrounded by water and fresh air.

So, when a sunny day comes along and you’re looking for fun things you can do outdoors with your family, boating is the perfect activity. Pontoon’s are a great option for boating for the sheer fact that they are the most versatile boat on the market.

Here are 9 unique things you can do on a pontoon during our new way of living with COVID-19, while staying safe with your family.

1. Wakeboarding

Wakeboarding can be a fun sport and great exercise. While learning any new sport is going to be difficult to begin with, wakeboarding is known to be a water sport that can be picked up quicker than many others. Wakeboarding also now has numerous different offshoots and styles, including kneeboarding and wakeskating that are even easier.

2. Water Skiing

Old school watersports lovers might prefer the traditional water skis to wakeboard as wakeboarding starts in a position that can be more challenging for older riders. However, like wakeboarding it can be exciting and a great exercise. While a pontoon isn’t going to beat a tow boat a tri-toon with a 200HP engine will easily give you the ability to get out of the water and hit some nice waves.

3. Fishing

A great activity for every age, fishing has been bringing families together for decades. The rhythm and exercise of repeatedly casting a fly-fishing rod can be very relaxing and a bit of a stress-reliver for some. Pontoons won’t compromise your passion for fishing. Today’s pontoons are built fishing focused features like pedestal seats, live-wells, tackle storage, rod holders, intuitive work stations and more.

4. Camping

Sometimes you just need to get away to somewhere secluded in nature. Whether it be just over night or for a couple days it can be relaxing to nod off to the gentle rocking of waves lapping on the shore. You can make your experience as rustic or luxurious as you desire but you will find that camping makes for an inexpensive – and unplugged – family vacation.

5. Riding Towable’s

Inflatable tubes and tow toys come in all kinds of shapes and size, ranging from single rider up to 4 person lounge chairs. You can even get fun shaped tubes like banana’s, fighter jets, swans, just about anything to suit every families personality.

6. Floating Picnic Date Night

Whether your celebrating a special occasion or just looking to spend a romantic evening on the water, a boat can be the perfect setting for date night, especially at sunset. The ambiance, food, and music are sure to make an impression! One idea is setting up a picnic on-board. Start by cozying up the boat with lots of pillow and blankets and add a candle or two. Food and drinks can be as simple as picking up a variety of meats, cheeses, crackers and fruits to put together a charcuterie board. Add a bottle of wine and you are set with an evening that is sure to impress.

7. Dockside Take-Out Dinner with a view

If your not the romantic time to put together a picnic, the next best options is dockside to-go! One of the greatest pleasures of boating is pulling up to a waterfront restaurant to pick up your phone-in ordered dinner to take back to the boat and eat with a 360 degree view of the lake. This experience has long been a favorite among boaters, even without social-distancing requirements.

8. Barbecue Grill Out

One thing that people love about Bennington pontoon boats is the way they offer long, luxurious days on the water. You’re going to be so comfortable, so relaxed and at ease, you may not to want to head back to shore for lunch (or dinner!) any time soon. Their entertainment layouts perfectly equip you to invite others to share the feast with you. You can sizzle up a batch of juicy burgers, and let your guests top them any way they like if you are equipped with the right tools on your decked-out pontoon. When they get thirsty, grab a cold one out of the refridge, no ice or cooler need.

9. Water Volleyball

Grab some friends, a net, ball and find a sandbar and you’re set. It’s a great way to have fun and get exercise at the same time. Its also a great way to keep the kids active in sports when most sporting events and leagues are cancelled this summer.
